Days of Roses June 30th

July16
The second Days of Roses event for which I was artist in residence saw a wealth of imagery thrown my way. I was particularly taken with the view from the trains afforded by Alison's poetry, and Rob's description of a wood that lost its ability to evoke primal terror. Try to spot all the tea-related imagery too - how very British!

Cartwheels in corridors

July14
Or rather, parks. My iPhone doesn’t do video and I was on my own so this is just a pic of where I did it! The grass was wet and beautiful between my toes and I held a handstand for some seconds as well as the cartwheels and a couple of forward rolls. Lovely thing to do at lunch! As well as seeing dan of course.

Painting for Hoi Yu

July12

Here's a picture of the painting I recently finished for my friend Hoi Yu, who made my new bike, Nike.

Hoi has been a great help and inspiration in a lot of my bike-related art, and I thought it apt to create for him his own piece of bike art as a birthday present. This was painted on a piece of cloth that Hoi had used a couple of years ago to wrap up parts that he gave me for sculptures. The pattern left by the grease was so appealing and evocative that I was compelled to use it as the basis of this joyful, organic composition. The frame we found on the streets of East London, a veritable goldmine for reclaimed material.

Just remains to say: thanks Hoi! Glad you like it :)

Does medicine need a healthy dose of empiricism? http://is.gd/cOEvi

Check out my review of “Quacks and Cures” at the Wellcome Collection. The history of medicine can act as a good reminder that we should always assess the medical evidence.

My New Bike! and no other stories.

June9

Here's my new bike, Nike. I've decided to name her after the Goddess of Speed - it was a toss-up between that and Visucia, the gallo-roman goddess, but Nike rhymes with bikee…

Nike was built by the wonderful and talented Hoi Yu Tang, and a marvelous job he did too. Single speed, Kona paddywagon frame, Specialized carbon forks… beautiful! And now I can work on my other bike, Mercury, without worrying about how I'll get to work in the morning!

iPad!

May28
I couldn't let today pass without gloating just a little bit about having played with the iPad over lunch. Here I am, in action - reading GhostRider in the sunshine. The iPad, like the iPhone used to take this picture, is of course not mine. It does, of course, belong to young Dr Wilson, who is maintaining his title as the most appley man in Clerkenwell. Unfortunately, he won't agree to buy me an iPad, even though I look so good with it.

On the move…

Lunchtime ode

February23

What is a lunchtime without your smiley face?

A grey, wet miserable hour of waste

A soulless, dreary, sad disgrace

I’ll never smile again at lunch

Until I smile with you at lunch

What is lunchtime when you’re there?

I trip down the street without a care

There’s sunlight shining everywhere

I always smile at lunch

When I lunch with you
